Constitution of the Publishing Accessibility Action Group (PAAG)

Name

The full name is Publishing Accessibility Action Group, which can be abbreviated to PAAG (pronounced /peɪdʒ/ as in “page”).

Purpose

PAAG exists to promote accessibility in publishing by championing inclusive practices, raising awareness, and fostering collaboration across the industry. While our main focus is on companies and individuals based in the UK, we also welcome international stakeholders who serve UK audiences as active members of our community.

Structure and Membership

PAAG operates as an informal network and does not have a formal membership structure. Participation is open to individuals and organisations that share its aims. 

Governance

Chairperson

  • PAAG shall have a Chair, elected by consensus or a simple majority of active participants.
  • The Chair serves a term of three years and may be re-elected.
  • The Chair is responsible for facilitating meetings, representing PAAG, and ensuring its activities align with its purpose.

Working Group

  • PAAG shall have a Working Group of volunteers who actively contribute to its activities and governance.
  • Members of the Working Group are self-nominated and participate based on interest and commitment to PAAG’s aims.

Decision-Making

  • Decisions are made collectively by active participants through discussion and consensus wherever possible.
  • If consensus is not reached, a simple majority vote of present participants shall determine the outcome.

Activities

PAAG may undertake activities such as:

  • Hosting discussions, meetings, and events related to accessibility in publishing.
  • Bringing together the publishing industry, disability organisations, policymakers, and end users to promote accessible publishing.
  • Sharing resources and best practices to improve industry practice and standards.

Finance

  • PAAG may hold funds in a bank account to support its activities.
  • Any funding received will be managed transparently, with oversight by the Working Group.
